Enjoy choosing from this range of dishes, carefully prepared for you by a dedicated team using only the freshest ingredients and where possible locally sourced produce from the local areas of Cumbria- The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. If your room-rate includes dinner, a three-course meal of starter, main-course and pudding or cheese, plus tea or coffee, is yours to select.

Dishes marked (v) have been chosen as being suitable for those on a vegetarian diet. Other diets can be catered for on request.

Many items on the Oak Room Restaurant menu change daily. The starters and main courses in bold are examples of such dishes.

All prices include value-added-tax at 17.5%. There is no service charge.
There is a minimum charge of £12.95.

Please note you are invited to refrain from smoking in the restaurant.

Tomato consomme jelly, gazpacho with basil foam,
cherry tomato tarte tatin with balsamic syrup.

Seared Fillet of Native Plaice £ 8.95
Served on a leek & potato cake with wild mushroom fricasse and beetroot crisps.

Goats' Cheese and Chive Tortellini (v) £ 8.50
Home-made pasta filled with goats' cheese and chives
with wilted baby spinach and red pepper veloute.

Pressed Cumberland Terrine £ 8.75
Pressed terrine made with Cumberland sausage, cured bacon,
Bury blackpudding and mushrooms, served with a fried hash brown,
house salad, quials egg and our own tomato ketchup.


Sweetcorn and Lemon Broth (v) £5.95
Light broth flavoured with citrus fruits and garnished with sweetcorn,
rice and crispy croutons

Pate of Three Fish £8.95
Layers of sea-trout, smoked haddock and sole set in a traditional pate
with light mussel salad.

Chilled Melon and Ginger Souffle (v) £8.45
Light creamy honeydew melon souffle served with iced strawberry & orange sauce.

All main courses are accompanied with their own potatoes and vegetables.  However if you would like an extra portion of vegetables please ask when ordering.

To accompany today's Supreme of Halibut, your Head Chef, Chris Thompson recommends you try a white wine such as Aligote Bouzeron (bin no. 34, 15.40 per bottle).

Oven-Roasted Lupton Red Partridge 17.95
Served with braised vegetables and lentils, potato and parsnip rosti, chicken boudin, caramelised onions and game jus.

Supreme of Artic Halibut 16.25
Pan-fried halibut with lobster ravioli, etuvee of mixed peppers, and crispy rocket tempura, finished with a saffron beurre blanc.

Confit of Cumbrian Belly Pork 18.25
Slowly cooked belly pork with a cabbage, apple and black pudding timbale, butternut squash puree, champ potatoes and a home-made faggot.

Rich Man's Lancashire Hot-Pot £ 19.25
Confit shoulder of Cumbrian lamb with hot-pot potatoes, braised cabbage dome,
swede puree and lamb jus.

Scottish Haddock Tastee Plate £ 17.25
Deep-fried haddock with hand-cut chips & tartare sauce, smoked haddock cheesy pie
and poached haddock mousse with garden pea puree.

Duo of Lakeland Spring Chicken £ 17.95
Crown and rolled leg of local chicken with buttered greens, fondant potato,
finished with a white wine, tarragon and vegetable broth.

Baked Fillet of Black Bandied Bream £ 18.25
Sat on a bed of herb crushed new potatoes, roast salsify
and buttered asparagus, with a caper and sun-dried tomato dressing
