Appleby (5 minutes by car)
Brackenber Moor, Appleby-in-Westmorland, CA16 6LP (017 683 51432)
This remotely situated heather and moorland course offers interesting golf with the rewarding bonus of several long par-4 holes that will be remembered. There are superb views of the Pennines and the Lakeland hills.
18 holes, 5901 yards, Par 68, SSS-68, Course record 63.
Club membership: 800.

Kirby Stephen (25 minutes by car).

The whole course is blessed with mature trees, streams and natural contours, adding a challenging aspect to the game of golf.
9 holes, 2896 yards, Par 35, SSS 35, Course record ?.

Green Fees: £8 for nine holes, £12 for 18.

Location: 1 mile out of Kirby Stephen.
 
Penrith (25 minutes by car).

A beautiful and well-balanced course, always changing direction, and demanding good length from the tee. It is set on rolling moorland with occasional pine trees and some fine views.
18 holes, 6047 yards, Par 69, SSS 69, Course record 63.

Green Fees: 25 for 2 rounds; 20 per round (?30/?25 weekends).

Keswick (40 minutes by car).

A varied fell and tree-lined course with commanding views of Lakeland scenery.
18 holes, 6225 yards, Par 71, SSS 72, Course record 68.
Club membership: 900.
Visitors: Book up to seven days in advance on 017 687 79010. (Restricted on competition days).
Societies: Apply in writing to secretary.
Green Fees: 17 per day (22 weekends & bank holidays).

Location: 4 miles East of Keswick, off A66.

Carlisle (40 minutes by car)

Majestic looking parkland course with great appeal. A complete but not too severe test of golf, with fine turf, natural hazards, a stream and many beautiful trees. A qualifying course for the Open Championship.
18 holes, 6278 yards, Par 71, SSS 70, Course record 63.
Club membership: 800.
Visitors: May not play before 9am and between 12 - 1.30, and when tee is reserved. Very limited play Sundays, and with member only on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

Brampton (45 minutes by car)

A challenging golf course, across glorious rolling fell country, demanding solid driving and many long second shots. A number of particularly fine holes, the pick of which may arguably be, the 3rd and 11th. The course offers unrivalled panoramic views from its hilly position.
18 holes, 6407 yards, Par 72, SSS 71, Course record 64. 
Club membership: 800.

Grange Fell (50 minutes by car)

Hillside course with magnificent views over Morecambe Bay and the surrounding Lakeland mountains.
9 holes, 5278 yards, Par 70, SSS 66, Course record 65. 
Club membership: 400.
Visitors: May normally play Mon - Sat.

Facilities: Tea/coffee, bar open midday and evenings, changing rooms.
Location: 1 mile West of Grange-over-Sands/Cartmel.

Windermere (55 minutes by car)

Enjoyable holiday golf on a short, slightly hilly but sporting course in this delightful area of the Lake District National Park, with superb views of the mountains as the backcloth to the lake and the course.
18 holes, 5122 yards, Par 67, SSS 65, Course record 58.

Visitors: Contact pro. shop 7 days before day of play, 10 - 12 & 2 - 4.30 or before 9am by arrangement.

Inland golf with many medium length holes on undulation parkland. The 17th is a testing par 4. Overlooking Morecambe Bay the course offers extensive views to the Lakeland Fells.
18 holes, 6201 yards, Par 71, SSS 70, Course record 67. 
Club membership: 750.
Visitors: Must contact in advance, and be a member of an accredited golf club, with a handicap certificate. May not play on Saturday competition days or on Tuesday Ladies day.
Societies: By arrangement in writing.

Silloth on Solway (80 minutes by car)

Billowing dunes, narrow fairways, heather and gorse and the constant subtle problems of tactics and judgement make these superb links on the Solway an exhilarating and searching test. The 13th is a good long hole. Superb views.
